Watch as Fast and Furious star Tyrese Gibson takes part in an age-old Edinburgh tradition

Fast and Furious star Tyrese Gibson took some time out from his busy filming schedule to embrace an age-old Edinburgh tradition.

The actor, who plays Roman Pearce in the film series, is one of the stars currently shooting scenes in the city for the upcoming Fast and Furious 9 movie, which is due for release next year.

But he's not all business, and in a video posted to social media admitted that he's been using his time in the Scottish capital to brush up on his history.

So much so that he's even been spitting on the famous Heart of Midlothian mosaic as a nod to the theory that it brings good luck – even if the tradition started out as an act of contempt due to its location next to the Old Tolbooth prison.

Tyrese also spent some time interacting with two of the city's lawyers, and making some interesting observations on their court dress.

Fast and Furious 9 filming is currently continuing across the city for a second week.

In the last seven days or so people have witnessed daring stunt actors jumping from bridges, windows and even moving vehicles as movie scenes are shot.

A number of road closures and parking restrictions remain in place this week while crews get to work. For more information on this, click here.

Vin Diesel, Ludacris and Nathalie Emmanuel are among Tyrese's co-stars also in town to shoot scenes.

You can watch Tyrese talking about his Edinburgh history lesson in the video above.
