Watch as Edinburgh Zoo workers go to extreme lengths to keep the penguins clean

Do you ever stand there in the shower or lie awake at night and ponder to yourself: “How do they clean the pesky penguin poo out of the enclosures at the Edinburgh Zoo?”

Well ponder no more!

Because a TikTok video that has been released by the @coastaldiveteam shows the process at the capital institution in action.

A couple of divers can be seen donning full scuba gear as they give the windows to the tank a good old scrub.

Edinburgh zoo is home to one of the world’s most renowned penguin enclosures that houses gentoo, king and rockhopper penguins - including Brigadier Sir Nils Olav III, who is a king penguin and the mascot and colonel-in-chief of the Norwegian King's Guard.

Penguin poop is something that mankind has marvelled at for generations - with scientists noting, one more than one occasion I may add, that patches of penguin poo stained ice can be seen from space.

Other scientists have carried out studies that show a penguin can fire a poo from their bum as far as four feet away and doing so with the force akin to a common gun.

Keeping penguin enclosures clean is no easy task and the little smelly creatures can often surprise you with where they choose to aim their projectile poop gun.
