Edinburgh and Lothians recycling centres reopen: watch as drivers wait in 'brutal' two-hour queues

With tips and recycling centres closed for months, lockdown led to a build up of waste that people are clearly desperate to get rid.

As part of phase one of easing lockdown measures in Scotland, recycling centres across Edinburgh and the Lothians reopen from today.

While Edinburgh residents have to book a slot at local recycling centres, this is not the case in Midlothian and West Lothian.

With many eager to get rid of their junk, huge queues have been building up at recycling centres in the likes of Bo'ness and Gorebridge.

One local snapped queues outside Stobhill Recycling Centre in Midlothian this morning, warning police were on the scene and that it was best avoided.

Midlothian Council said there was a two-hour wait at the recycling centre and urged people to only come if you "cannot safely store your recycling at home for a bit longer".

Courtney Miller shared a clip showing huge queues already forming on Grangemouth Road in Bo'ness at 8am this morning as locals faced tailbacks on approach to Kinneil Kerse Recycling Centre.

Locals expressed anger over the disruption on social media, blasting bad "road management" as many asked why a "traffic control system" hadn't been put in place or a booking system to use the site.

One person slammed Falkirk Council, who are responsible for operating the site, claiming they had sent away after waiting over an hour.

"What a joke. Its [Kinneil Kerse Recycling Centre] shut for 11am waiting in a queue for an hour and a half then sent away", she said.
