Watch as dramatic car fire brings traffic to standstill at Whitletts roundabout

Ayr's busiest road was brought to a standstill after a car burst into flames.

Emergency services raced to reports of a vehicle ablaze at Whitletts roundabout on the A77 late last night.

Footage published online shows the night sky lit up by the ferocious flames engulfing the motor and the flashing blue lights of an ambulance.

A line of waiting cars watch as the fireball takes grip of the vehicle.

Two fire appliances attended the incident at about 9.56pm and helped to extinguish the blaze.

Emergency services have confirmed today that no one was injured in the incident.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue (SFRS) spokesperson said: "We received a call at 9.56pm to reports of a car on fire near the Whitletts roundabout.

"Two pumps attended and extinguished the fire. The stop message was received at 10.18pm."

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: "Around 10pm on Monday, September 6, police and fire service attended a report of a car on fire between Sandyford Toll roundabout and Whitletts roundabout, Heathfield Road, Ayr.

“The fire was extinguished by SFRS. No one was injured.”
