Watch as Dermot Kennedy appears on jumbotron at NBA game

Dermot Kennedy had an unexpected moment in the spotlight while attending an NBA game last night.

The Dubliner shared the moment he was caught by surprise when he appeared on the jumbotron and joked he 'didn’t know what to do with my hands' as he was surprisingly understated for a big-time performer.

He tweeted: "First time on the jumbotron, I didn’t know what to do with my hands.

"In all seriousness though, seeing Jay-Z watch my music play out over the Barclays Center was pretty f***ing crazy."

In general the Rathcoole native knows how to draw the biggest response possible from a crowd but on this occasion he was simply in attendance as a fan in Brooklyn.

He saw the home side Nets earn a hard-fought win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Another famous musical figure among the crowd was rapper Jay-Z as he is the New York team's most famous fan having previously even owned shares in the team.

As we approach the playoffs, the Nets are on the edge of the Eastern Conference sides set to make the post-season but on their day they are a match with anyone as they boast former league MVP Kevin Durant and star point guard Kyrie Irving among their roster.

At the start of the season they also had another perenial All-Star in James Harden on their books too but he was controversially traded mid-season to the Philadelphia 76ers.
