Watch as cute seal has fun splashing around in the sea near Clevedon

Clevedon had an unusual visitor at the weekend –a seal.

The seal was spotted by local man Samuel Francis, who captured this cute video.

It was seen splashing around in the Bristol Channel over the past few days.

Samuel said: "I was out cycling along the sea wall when I first saw it about 20 yards off the sea wall.

"It then moved up the channel about 500ish yards into the pill/ harbour and that’s where I decided to take the video of it almost on the beach.

"At points it was within 10 yards of me and didn’t seem to fear me whatsoever."

It has been seen by the sea wall and at Clevedon Pill and in the water off of Wains Hill.

The appearance of the seal has caused much delight amongst locals who have described it as a ‘beautiful sight.’

This is not the first time a seal has been seen in the Bristol Channel and waterways around Bristol in recent weeks.

Another was spotted in the Cumberland Basin by Bristol’s harbourmaster earlier this month.

A seal also caused a stir when it popped up in the River Avon near Beese’s Riverside Bar in St Anne’s.

It was then seen frolicking in the summer sunshine near the weir by the Chequers Pub in Hanham.

People out enjoying strolls in the sun stopped along the riverbank to watch the seal and take pictures.

Some even managed to witness it catching fish for its dinner.

One walker said: “He’s found some good fishing by the look of it.”

Colonies of seals are known to live in the Bristol Channel.

It is thought he may have ventured closer to the coast due to the beaches and estuary being quieter during the Government lockdown.
