Watch as Catalans erupt into Flower of Scotland during national rally in Barcelona

Thousands of Catalans gathered together in Barcelona to celebrate their national day - but erupted into an unexpected rendition of Flower of Scotland.

The city centre streets were packed with people carrying flags and drums to commemorate Diada, the fall of Barcelona during the War of Spanish Succession in 1714.

However, during the celebrations men wearing kilts and playing bagpipes took over to celebrate the union between Catalonia and Scotland.

Supporters of independence from the region and Scotland see themselves as brothers in arms in their push for self-determination.

Catalan flags are spotted at Independence rallies in Scotland and Saltires regularly appear at similar rallies in Barcelona and at the Camp Nou, home of Barcelona FC .

The short video clip, filmed yesterday, shows thousands of people walking and gathered together listening to Flower of Scotland.

Several Saltires and Yes Scotland flags can be seen waving high above the crowd.

A majority of Catalans want independence from Spain, and supported Scotland during the 2014 independence referendum .
