Bus engulfed by flames as firefighters tackle massive blaze on Silverburn road

Firefighters are battling a huge bus fire on a Silverburn road.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at Cowglen Road after the blaze erupted at about 11.45am.

The road is now blocked between Peat Road and Househillmuir Crescent.

One eyewitness said that children at the nearby Rising Stars nursery had to evacuate the building.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said: "We are in attendance at Cowglen Road due to a bus fire.

"We received the call at 11.50am and have two appliances at the scene.

"Police have been requested for traffic control."

Images appear to show that the fire has been largely extinguished, with the bus totally destroyed.

A statement from the council reads: "Cowglen Road is closed between Peat Road and Silverburn access road, Househillmuir Crescent due to a vehicle fire."
