Watch as brazen Edinburgh bike thieves allegedly steal two e-bikes worth £4K

Watch the moment three Edinburgh thieves run off with £4,000 worth of e-bikes in a smash-and-grab raid on a residential neighbourhood in the capital.

Edinburgh resident Edison Mallare was left fuming with anger when he and his wife's expensive e-bikes were nicked from their garden in the capital last week.

The two bikes, an Orbea Wild FS and a Giant FastRoad, were nabbed by two unknown hooded males wearing black balaclavas, while a third threatened anybody who dared interfere with a log.

The thieves hopped over Edison's fence with the bikes, and cycled off into the distance as a neighbour tried to chase after.

The video footage, that was filmed by Edison's son, captured the two yobs throwing the e-bikes carelessly over the fence before they jumped over.

According to Edison, the two bikes were being stored in a locked unit in the garden but the men allegedly broke into the unit with a pair of bolt cutters.

An alarm that seemed to be coming from the storage unit can be heard in the video.

The pair then jumped simultaneously over the fence, and the third person on the other side of the fence grabs one of the bikes and speeds away.

After this, a male neighbour can be seen chasing after the yobs, but ends up sitting defeated on the fence as he realises they have escaped.

Edison, who is a nurse at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh, posted the footage and photos on his social media on Thursday November 11, stating: "My bikes were stolen today at midday.

“They’ve broken into my alarmed bike storage and even threatened to attack if someone tried to stop them. Absolutely infuriating b******s.”

The post has gained over 100 reactions and comments from disgusted Facebook users.

Further comments read: “That’s terrible. Hope you and your family are fine? Just awful", and “Scumbags, I’m so sorry for you. Hope the police catch them.”

The 49-year-old spoke today, saying: "We are shaken and scared. They could come back for the other bike they left.

“They only got away with my bike in the end. Another neighbour recovered my wife’s bike – a Giant FastRoad – which had been left in an alley.

“I think the rear mudguard was dented during the robbery, so the wheel seized, meaning they couldn’t ride it away.

“I can’t sleep at night and I’m angry as I was at work at the Royal Infirmary when they came.

“My wife and daughter were traumatized as well after having to witness this attack in broad daylight.

My wife ran downstairs and locked the door after a third thief – wearing grey – was waiting out the front with a log, threatening to hit anyone trying to stop them.”

The bike, belonging to Edison, that the thieves managed to get away with was a red Orbea Wild FS, which cost £4,000.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Officers are investigating following a break-in and theft which happened in the Ruthven Place area of Edinburgh on Thursday, 11 November, 2021.

“Three men forced entry to a shed and stole two electric bikes. One was recovered nearby and the second remains outstanding.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information should contact officers via 101 and quote incident number 1385 of 11 November.

"An anonymous report can be given to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
