New video shows Banana Flat residents belt out Sunshine on Leith in NHS tribute

Residents living in Edinburgh's famous Banana Flats belted out Sunshine on Leith to pay tribute to key workers and the NHS amid the coronavirus crisis.

The sing along was organised by Tony MacMartin who encouraged Leithers to pay tribute to "all hospital, supermarket, transport and care workers and their efforts."

Earlier this week, a similar event took place and videos emerged of Leith locals having a massive singsong.

Similar videos have emerged from Italy, who have been put on complete lockdown after experiencing high deaths rates due to COVID-19.

Last night Boris Johnson made the decision to shut down all pubs, clubs and restaurants to fight the coronavirus across the UK.

Leith responded by blasting Sunshine on Leith from buses and flats, with reports of the song being played out as pubs in the area closed down.

Tony said: Let's get Sunshine On Leith blasting from every window and balcony in every street, stair and tenement.

"A tribute and big thank you to all hospital, supermarket, transport and care workers and their efforts.

"Followed by safe street and stair meetings to organise committees to help our elderly and vulnerable neighbours."
