Watch as armed police storm Bridgeton flat near Glasgow Green

Video sent to Glasgow Live shows the moment an armed officer stormed into a block of flats amid a heavy police presence in Bridgeton.

The footage, shot in the early hours of the morning on McPhail Street, shows dozens of cop cars and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service at the scene. At least seven different police vehicles can be seen parked up on the road, which leads onto Glasgow Green.

An eyewitness says a number of armed police entered the building after being called to Glasgow's east end. Meanwhile, residents in the area have this morning found their gas supply has been turned off.

Police have since confirmed a man has been arrested after barricading himself into a flat, with trained negotiators having to be deployed. The 25-year-old man will appear in court today.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around half past midnight, on Wednesday, 16 December, 2020, police responded to a report of a man causing a disturbance.

"Officers attended and the man had barricaded himself into a flat in McPhail Street, Glasgow.

"Police negotiators were deployed and a 25-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

"He is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday, 17 December, 2020."
