Watch armed police and specialist officers surround caravans in city centre

Armed police and specialist officers surrounded some caravans near a former factory in Manchester city centre today as a main road was also taped off.

Officers taped off Store Street, which is close to Manchester Piccadilly train station, from around 10am this morning.

A huge armed response team then surrounded an area near a former factory between Store Street and Ducie Street.

Pictures taken at the scene appeared to show the police activity focusing around some caravans that were parked up in the area.

Several police vehicles were stationed on Store Street with a cordon in place preventing vehicles from travelling down the road.

The road has since been reopened, though the M.E.N understands that officers remain in the area near the caravans.
