Are the Boston Celtics turning away from playing veteran point guard Dennis Schroder late in games under head coach Ime Udoka? While the data we have to suggest so is about as anecdotal as it comes, for two games now we have seen the German floor general’s role a smaller one than it has been for much of the season so far.
When asked about the lesser role playing alongside starting point guard Marcus Smart in the Celtics’ last contest against the New York Knicks, Udoka downplayed the significance. But then after losing Smart to a thigh contusion in Boston’s win over the Indiana Pacers on Monday, we did not see a return of Schroder to the floor late in the overtime game.
The hosts of the CLNS Media podcast “The Garden Report” recently debated whether the Celtics’ head coach had seen enough late-game issues from playing Schroder, or if it was just a case of appearances being more than they seemed.
