Bad news for Andy Dalton is turning out to be good news for his non-profit, the Andy and JJ Dalton Foundation.
Since the Bengals announced Tuesday during the bye week that they are benching Dalton and turning to rookie quarterback Ryan Finley, the organization has received more than 200 new donations amounting to an estimated $4,000 increase in funds this week according to Cincinnati.com.
The foundation’s managing director, Amy Floyd, said that the majority of the donations have been an ode to the QB’s jersey number, which he’s worn all nine seasons since the Bengals drafted him in 2011.
“Probably 95 to 98 percent have been $14 donations,” Floyd said.
The foundation serves and provides for the families of pediatric patients at different medical facilities in the Cincinnati area. Dalton and his wife, JJ, launched the initiative in 2011 when they were college students at TCU.
