Alex Morgan and the U.S. Women’s National Team are having the best week ever and the USWNT forward made a point to remind us all as she accepted her ESPY for Best Female Athlete on Wednesday night.
Morgan stepped on the stage, to the mic and said, “Sorry, but this is probably the second-best trophy we won this week.”
Morgan was likely meaning that the team’s World Cup Championship trophy holds the top spot. But in claiming her trophy as the entire teams, she and her teammates have seven new trophies this week (Morgan’s ESPY and Silver Boot, Rose LaVelle’s Bronze Ball, Megan Rapinoe’s Golden Boot and Golden Ball and the team’s ESPY for Best Team all on top of the World Cup Championship trophy).
