Watch alarming moment car drives onto motorway in WRONG direction as police release dash cam footage of avoidable accidents

A driver pulling onto a busy motorway carriageway in the WRONG direction before smashing into a lorry, a van reversing into a biker, and a motorist sending a cyclist flying off his bike.

These are some of the shocking acts of careless driving caught on camera on roads across Cheshire.

Cheshire Police has released dashcam footage from a number of alarming incidents to raise awareness of preventable crashes.

Twice the number of people died on roads in the county in 2018, compared to the year before, the force said.

There have already been 23 deaths on the roads in Cheshire since January this year.

That's more than one per week, the force warns.

And investigations into the incidents show that most of the fatalities could have been prevented.

There are five main contributing factors that cause serious road traffic collisions, known as the Fatal 5.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: "Road users who commit one of the Fatal 5 offences are far more likely to be involved in a fatal collision than those who do not.

"People are dying on our roads as a result of motorists’ poor driving, reckless decisions and momentary lapses in concentration.

"Fatal collisions are heartbreaking – for the family, for the community, and for the responding emergency services staff who have to witness the tragedy and subsequent aftermath.
