WATCH: Alan McNamee free to play for Rhode in Offaly final after tackle that saw him sent off

Alan McNamee is free to play in Sunday’s Offaly Senior Football Championship final replay for Rhode after bringing his case to the Offaly GAA Hearings Committee.

The veteran former county midfielder, 39, was red carded in the first half of the drawn decider on October 31 after a hard frontal tackle on Tullamore’s Diarmuid Egan who was later taken to hospital.

McNamee was going for a record 13th senior county title, having won his first as a 16-year-old off the bench in 1998 when Rhode beat Edenderry.

His younger brother Niall salvaged a draw for 14-man Rhode with a spectacular goal with the last kick of the game.

The defending champions took the case to the Offaly Hearings Committee on Monday night and the red card issued by referee Marius Stones was rescinded.

The replay takes place this Sunday at O’Connor Park in Tullamore at 2pm with the decision a huge boost to Rhode’s chances.

The winners face Kildare champions Naas in the Leinster club championship the following Sunday.
