Watch: Al Carns’ interview less than an hour before resigning as Armed Forces minister

Al Carns said he would consider his position as Armed Forces minister if the government’s military funding plan was “not right” - just an hour before announcing his resignation.

His resignation came as Sir Keir Starmer set out the government’s defence spending plans following the departure of defence secretary John Healey, who warned the prime minister that the Defence Investment Plan “falls well short of what is required”.

Speaking to Sky News shortly before stepping down, Mr Carns said: “I need to do what is right by the armed forces and, if I don’t think that’s right, then I will absolutely consider my position.”
