A.J. Green will reportedly miss a few weeks of the Bengals’ regular season after he sprained his ankle Saturday. The 31-year-old WR underwent surgery Tuesday to clean out the sprained ankle and then the news came out that he will be benched longer than initially expected.
According to NFL.com, before the surgery, the expectation was that there was a possibility Green would be able to suit up for the Week 1 game versus the Seattle Seahawks. After the procedure, NFL Insider Ian Rapoport tweeted that he was told the Cincinnati star is “now expected to miss a few games.”
First-year head coach Zac Taylor explained his expectations for Green using similar language.
“I hate to put weeks on it,” Taylor told reporters, per Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic, “but we are ready for him to come back when he feels healthy and ready to go and hopefully it’s not more than a couple games.”
