Watch 38-year-old Michael Jordan drop 51 points on this day 19 years ago

After a three-year absence from the NBA following his sixth Finals MVP performance, Bulls legend Michael Jordan returned to the league with the Washington Wizards at the age of 38.

Jordan scored 31 points in just his second game back, broke the 40-point barrier by mid-November, and just before the start of the new year, Jordan exploded for 51 points against the Charlotte Hornets in a 107-90 win on December 29th, 2001.

Jordan took only two threes in the game and didn’t make either, but dominated Charlotte in the mid-range game, shooting 21-for-38 from the field. It would be Jordan’s last 50-point game, though he would have several more 40-point games before retiring after the following season.
