Meet 100-year-old May Choraffa who has proven that age is only a number after taking to the dance floor on her milestone birthday.
Keen dancer May thought her waltzing days were over, after a serious hip injury left her in a wheelchair.
However the plucky Strictly fan vowed to get back on her feet and did just that - after receiving a birthday letter from the Queen.
May said she has always loved dancing, in particular Tango and the Foxtrot - which is how she met her husband Richard.
The centenarian added: "I have danced all my life and I used to go dancing in Liverpool.
"That is how I met my husband, at a dance.
"I actually went to school with him and I didn't like him at first.
"He had a motorbike and he used to pull up on it and I used to think 'that fool'.
"But then he came to a dance one night and he asked me to dance with him.
"So I did and then when we sat down and were having a cup of coffee and he said to me 'you are not going to be dancing with anyone else.
"And we got married the next year.
"Our headteacher even bought us a wedding gift, because we were the only ones in the school to have got married."
Former haberdasher May ran ‘KC Cleaners’ in Toxteth for 41 years and was a regular of the Rialto and Grafton ballrooms - even picking up prizes for her performances.
In 2018 she moved to an independent living at Belong Wigan, after a major hip impairment left her unable to walk and in a wheelchair.
But determined to get back on the dance floor, May began exercising with a specialist fitness instructor Ryan Cadman and now, a year into her personal programme, she has said goodbye to her wheelchair.
To celebrate her achievement Belong Wigan organised a 100th birthday party for May - which she said was "wonderful".
Mum-of-one May said: "Dancing makes me feel about 14 years old.
"It just brings me so much joy.
"There is so much misery in this day and age - but no-one is going to like you if you are miserable.
"The exercise programme has changed my life.
"I never thought I would be able to walk again, but thanks to my fitness instructor, Ryan, and the amazing facilities in the gym, I don’t have to hang up my dancing shoes just yet.
"I now have the strength and confidence to be the active and independent person I used to be."
And on top of her dancing, which has kept her feeling young, May had another secret to her longlife.
She said: "A pacemaker!
"It is a wonderful thing!"
