Wastewise enters double figures with latest £1.3m local authority contract

Hull-based recycling and waste management specialist Wastewise has secured a tenth municipal contract.

A two-year deal to treat organic waste for Staffordshire Moorlands, valued at £1.3 million, takes the business to double figures.

It will be used to produce high-grade compost at the East Yorkshire company’s Cheshire East plant, as the two-year-old investment surpasses initial expectations.

Wastewise will pick up from a central point in Leek as it works with the local authority’s selected collection contractor, Alliance Environmental Services Ltd.

Bob Wilkes, managing director, said: “We look forward to supporting Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and AES with their organic waste treatment and in helping them achieve their waste management goals.

“We are proud to support 10 local authorities across north and mid-England, using our purpose-built facilities to ensure as little as possible is wasted.”

Wastewise’s North West facility can process up to 90,000 tonnes of organic waste a year.

Mr Wilkes said that since the in-vessel composting facility opened at Leighton Grange, near Crewe in mid 2020, it has exceeded expectations in efficiency and processing capabilities, allowing additional capacity to take this new consignment.

Darren Wood, of AES Ltd, added: “Wastewise are providing us with an efficient and

proven solution for the treatment of our organic waste, the end product of which is high

grade compost that promotes circular economy.”

More than 96 per cent of the waste goes to the horticultural, agricultural, landscaping or land remediation sectors, with the remainder further recycled or sent for energy and heat recovery.
