Wasteful Manchester United held to a goalless draw at Crystal Palace

Manchester United's visit to Selhurst Park on Saturday resulted in a goalless draw against Crystal Palace in the Premier League. Despite Erik ten Hag's side controlling the match, they were unable to secure all three points.

The result, which could be seen as a small step towards redemption following United's embarrassing 4-0 hammering by Palace four months ago, positions them 11th in the league table with seven points.

Meanwhile, Oliver Glasner's Palace sit 16th, having accumulated three points thus far.

United's struggles at Selhurst Park persist, as they have failed to win in their last five matches at the venue, managing to score only one goal during this period. The stadium remains a perplexing challenge for the Red Devils.

"We didn't win, but I'm happy for the work, for the sacrifices of my teammates, we had so many chances. It's painful to come back home with the one point when we deserved to win," United's keeper Andre Onana told Sky Sports.

Manchester United will lament the missed chances from their match on Saturday, particularly two heart-wrenching close calls in quick succession during the first half.

Shots at goal fired by Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes found the crossbar within seconds from each other.

The first half saw Onana largely untroubled, but he was called into action multiple times in the second half as Palace improved considerably. Onana showcased his skills with a stunning double save, first diving to parry Eddie Nketiah's shot and then swiftly leaping to deny Ismaila Sarr's volleyed attempt on the rebound.

"I think we were way better than them, we had the best chances during the game," Onana said. "(But) playing for Manchester United, you have to win. We go home disappointed."

Palace boss Glasner's was concerned at halftime about the team's lack of intensity, and his boys addressed that with more focused play in the second half.

"It was the intensity, the belief, he (Glasner) was obviously frustrated with the way we were playing, he thought we were playing so cautious," Henderson said. "(He said) take the safety cap off and go for it. We have nothing to lose."

Palace came close to breaking the deadlock in the late stages of the match but Sarr's shot went wide after he expertly got to the end of a cross from Jeffrey Schlupp.

"Obviously we missed a couple of key opportunities, I think Andre made a great save," Palace keeper Dean Henderson told Sky. "It was a game of two halves and I think we'll take the point and we'll be delighted with it."
