Wasps' involvement in the upcoming Premiership Rugby Final remains subject to doubt after the club confirmed a further four positive Covid-19 cases among their playing department.
Following their 47-24 semi-final win over Bristol Bears on October 10, Lee Blackett's side are due to face newly-crowned European champions Exeter Chiefs at Twickenham on Saturday evening.
However, Wasps' preparations for a first appearance in the English rugby showpiece since 2017 were thrown into chaos last week after seven individuals at the club - four players and three staff members - all returned positive tests for Covid-19 just 10 days before the match.
That seven - plus those deemed as "close contacts" of the persons affected - all went into self-isolation in line with Government guidelines, while Wasps cancelled training for the remainder of the week.
An additional round of coronavirus testing was then conducted on Saturday, with Wasps confirming that four more members of their playing department have now tested positive.
With those unnamed individuals and their close contacts now also isolating, Wasps announced they would not return to training following consultation with the medical leads at Premiership Rugby, the RFU and Public Health England and added that a decision on their involvement in the Premiership Final will be made after they receive the results of a futher round of Covid-19 testing to be conducted on Tuesday.
If they are unable to play, losing semi-finalists and European Challenge Cup winners Bristol would be in line to face Exeter at Twickenham instead.
"The Club’s COVID-19 contact tracing, measures and protocols, which remain rigorous, will continue to be adhered to," Wasps' statement concluded.
"Exeter Chiefs and Bristol Bears have been made aware of the situation prior to the public release of this information."
