Wasps cleared to play in Premiership final against Exeter after coronavirus tests

Wasps will be allowed to compete in the 2019/20 Gallagher Premiership final against Exeter this Saturday.

The latest round of Covid-19 screening programme results were received early this morning and returned no further positive cases.

This followed seven positive cases that were returned in last week's screening and an additional four that resulted from an extra round ordered by Wasps over the weekend.

The clean sweep of negatives placed Wasps in a strong position entering their early-morning meeting with Public Health England and Premiership Rugby Ltd.

And it has now been confirmed that Wasps will take their place in the final against Exeter. Had Wasps not been able to, beaten semi-finalists Bristol would have stepped into the breach.

Stephen Vaughan, Wasps Group CEO, said: “I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to Premiership Rugby, the RFU, Public Health England and Public Health Warwickshire for their clarity and assistance throughout this whole process.

"As a Club, we are delighted that we can now take our rightful place in this Saturday’s Premiership Rugby Final. To all of our fans and well-wishers, thank you for your many messages of support, this Final is for you!”
