Washout weather for Glasgow Men's 10k on Father's Day as runners power through rain

Washout weather didn't dampen the spirits of runners in the Men's 10k who battled torrential rain for the Father's Day race.

Thousands of men pounded the streets of Glasgow city centre for the annual charity event.

The weather was not on their side, as runners were drenched with heavy showers this morning.

Participants were spotted taking cover under tress while other powered on through the rain to the finish line.

Starting at the Riverside Museum, the route headed east along the River Clyde, taking in views of the Glasgow Science Centre, the Armadillo, the SEC and the SSE Hydro, all within the first 2K.

Runners then passed under the Kingston Bridge, crossing over the Clyde via George V Bridge, and back again via Glasgow Bridge at the halfway point.

The route then passed George Square and moved down towards Glasgow Green, before crossing the Clyde twice more via Crown Street and Kings Bridge.

Heading back towards George Square, participants were met by cheering crowds at the finish line greeting them with umbrellas and a warm change of clothes.

One keen runner had to hop to it back to George Square, sporting a full rabbit outfit for the occasion.

The race aims to raise awareness of men's mental health issues.

“The life expectancy of men in Scotland is still the lowest in the UK and one of the lowest in Europe,” explained Mike Christoforou from Men’s 10K.

“Suicide, in addition to other mental health problems, continues to be an issue of high significance to men in Scotland. In fact, it is the biggest killer of young people aged 18 to 34 in Scotland, and almost three out of four suicides are by men.

“The Men’s 10K offers men across Scotland and beyond the chance to lace up their trainers and start to turn these shocking statistics around.”
