Washington still has a slight chance at the playoffs

Believe it or not, after three consecutive losses and a 6-9 record, the Washington Football Team remains alive in the NFC playoff hunt — barely.

Three weeks ago, things looked completely different for Washington. At 6-6, and winners of four in a row, Washington hosted the Cowboys in Week 14. A slow start doomed Washington, which eventually fell, 27-20 to Dallas. That began the WFT’s current three-game losing streak, which now has Washington on the outside looking in for the NFC playoffs.

Washington has two games remaining, both against NFC East foes. In Week 17, the WFT hosts the Eagles, and in Week 17, Washington travels to the Meadowlands to face the Giants.

Washington played Philly two weeks ago and lost. The WFT defeated the Giants early this season.

Washington’s slim playoff chances first begin by winning its next two games. That’s certainly possible, but do you have a lot of faith in Washington after its 56-14 loss to Dallas in Week 16?

Maybe not. But we’ll explain how Washington can still make the playoffs, courtesy of Joe Ferreira.

One scenario begins with Washington winning both of its remaining games. In addition, it would need the 49ers to lose their final two games, with the Vikings, Saints, and Falcons all losing at least one game.

Plausible? Sure.

The following scenario involves Washington winning out and the Eagles losing out. The Vikings would win one game, while the Falcons and Saints would each need to lose one game.

The final scenario would require Washington to win both of its last two games, with the Eagles losing both games. The Vikings would need to lose one of its final two games, with the Falcons losing in Week 17 but defeating the Saints in Week 18.

The NFL is a strange league. You never say never. Who saw Washington winning the NFC East in 2020? Sure, Washington’s NFC playoff chances are unrealistic, but somehow it remains alive despite losing by 42 points only days ago.
