SEATTLE _ Democratic U.S. Sen. Patty Murray outdistanced her challenger, Republican Chris Vance, in Tuesday's Washington Senate race. The Associated Press called the race.
Murray, who's been serving in the position since 1993, garnered about 53.5 percent of the tallied votes.
Vance, a former legislator and state Republican party chairman, had about 46.5 percent of Tuesday's vote.
One of the first Republican candidates in high-profile races to denounce Donald Trump, Vance had pinned partisan gridlock and inaction in the nation's capital on Murray.
Murray highlighted her efforts to raise the minimum wage and said she would like to put more federal dollars toward education and paid sick leave.
In four previous Senate primaries, Murray won more than 50 percent of the vote just once: in 2004, when she received 54 percent.
