Washington’s Rome Odunze Deftly Trolled Oregon Fans in Most Petty Way Possible

With his stock at an all-time high following a season for the ages, entry in the NFL draft seems almost guaranteed for Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze.

However, if he is turning professional, his imminent departure from Seattle is not preventing him from getting in one last quip on the way out the door.

On Wednesday—two days after the Huskies’ 34–13 loss to Michigan in the national championship, and 40 days after Washington’s 34–31 victory over Oregon in the Pac-12 title game—Odunze unexpectedly popped up in a social media space held by Ducks fans after the retirement of Alabama coach Nick Saban. Ducks coach Dan Lanning has been mentioned as a potential candidate for the job.

"Alright, brother. We're tired of you catching passes. It's time for you to go," one of the Oregon fans present pleaded sardonically.

"Y'all better be nice to me or I might come back for another year just to do it," Odunze replied.

Odunze topped the century mark in both matchups between the Huskies and Ducks this season, catching eight passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns in Washington’s 36–33 win on Oct. 14 and eight passes for 102 yards in the Pac-12 championship.

All told, Odunze finished with 92 catches for an FBS-high 1,640 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2023.
