During the first half of Washington’s game against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday afternoon, the offense ran an interesting play that resulted in a solid gain.
On the play, Alex Smith took the snap and seamlessly handed the ball to RB J.D. McKissic through his legs, without the rest of the offense moving. Smith rolled right, and McKissic darted to the left for a nice pickup. It was comical to watch, and fun enough to get the offense into a groove.
After the game, coach Ron Rivera remarked that they got the genesis of this play from the movie Little Giants, which was called ‘The Annexation of Puerto Rico.’
Ron Rivera said the origin of the trick play was the Little Giants, which ran a similar play called "the Annexation of Puerto Rico."
He said the play was called the "Bummer-ooski" and the coaching staff told the players about old coach Bum Phillips.

The play was actually identical to one that Rivera’s Carolina Panthers ran a few years back, with Cam Newton under center.

It may not have resulted in a massive play or anything, but it was nice to see some experimentation in the offense, and a little bit of creativity as well.
We also know what Rivera’s favorite movie is now, as well.
