Washington Rep. Morris resigns after 22 years in the legislature, replaced by Alex Ramel

Washington State Representative Jeff Morris (D) resigned from the legislature on Jan. 6, 2020, after representing the 40th District for over 20 years. His replacement, Alex Ramel (D), was sworn in on the same day.

Morris resigned to take a position with Schneider Electric, a Fortune 500 company. He called the job “a dream opportunity.” Morris won re-election unopposed in 2014, 2016, and 2018.

Officials from Whatcom, Skagit, and San Juan counties, all of which are included in the 40th District, selected Ramel for the District 40-Position 2 seat. Ramel ran for the District 40-Position 1 seat in 2018, finishing third in the primary. Ramel and Debra Lekanoff (D), who was first elected in 2018, are now the two representatives from the 40th District.
