Washington Redskins want to deploy Chase Young “right away”

The Washington Redskins took Ohio State superstar defensive end Chase Young with the second overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Coming off his third season in Columbus, Young was widely considered the most skilled player available this year.

Young slipped from the top spot because of Joe Burrow’s absolute breakout season. A franchise quarterback, Burrow was taken first overall by the Cincinnati Bengals.

That left Young to be immediately secured by the Washington Redskins. There, Young will reunite with Terry McLaurin and Dwayne Haskins, two of his former teammates in Columbus.

However, while we know Young will be a perfect fit in the nation’s capital, we don’t know how Ron Rivera, the Redskins first-year head coach, will use the team’s shiny, new toy.

“You have to be realistic about that and know that there are certain times and situations where you’ve got to rotate him out. So, what we’d like to do is get him out there, get him going, see where he’s going to fit and then from that point use him, but use him the right way,” coach Ron Rivera said according to Redskins.com.

Rivera should want to use the 6-foot-5 game wrecker right away. After all, Young is just months removed from setting the single-season sack record at Ohio State despite missing two games due to suspension.

Young totaled 16.5 sacks in 14 games to lead all FBS, and will come onto a front that’s looking to transition to another edge rusher. Now playing a 4-3 as Redskins Wire’s Zachary Neel explains, Young should get ample time early on.

Chase Young is an absolute monster and will likely make an instant impact for the Redskins. It’ll be a no-brainer that we see him immediately start to develop as a crucial piece of their defense.
