Washington Redskins listed as massive underdogs in Sunday’s season opener

We finally made it. There is less than a week left until the NFL regular season begins for the Washington Redskins, and we can all go back to watching football on Sundays.

The Redskins travel to Philadelphia this weekend to take on their divisional foe, the Eagles. It is the first of many difficult games that the Redskins will have in a grueling stretch to open the season, where they play five teams that made the playoffs last season.

It would be safe to say that Washington isn’t being given much of a chance this week, especially with Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz seemingly back healthy, and playing at home. Vegas seems to agree with that sentiment.

According to USA Today Sports, the Redskins are listed as 9.5-point underdogs on Sunday, meaning they are projected to lose by at least nine points, with an over/under of 46 points. The money line — listed at +330 on most sites — doesn’t bode well for the Redskins either.

In Week 1 of the NFL, a lot of these betting lines have been thrown together and made based on preseason projections and offseason roster moves. The Redskins are currently starting a quarterback that is new to their system (Case Keenum), a running back set to see his first NFL action (Derrius Guice), and an offensive line that has been pieced together in the past month. It’s understandable that they are massive underdogs.
