Washington quarterback Taylor Heinicke is our Player of the Game in Week 2

Washington quarterback Taylor Heinicke is the Washington Wire player of the week for Week 2 after his performance in the WFT’s 30-29 win over the New York Giants.

In his third career NFL start, Heinicke completed 34 of 46 passes for 336 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception. Heinicke’s performance didn’t consist of any empty yards, nor did he dink and dunk all game. Heinicke attacked the Giants down the field at times, especially with Terry McLaurin.

Another positive development in this game for Heinicke was he only ran the ball four times. He was sacked just once. So, he avoided the big hits. On a pair of plays in which he tried to run for a first down, he either slid or ran out of bounds instead of picking up an extra yard but taking a big shot in the process.

Heinicke also apparently has the clutch gene. Anytime Washington needed to answer, Heinicke quickly brought them down the field. He essentially had two come-from-behind drives late, and he came up big in each one. He made multiple big-time throws, but it was his one to tight end Ricky Seals-Jones in the fourth quarter that was a thing of beauty.

Heinicke was outstanding in Washington’s win over the Giants and was the primary reason his team won.
