Washington Post slams Egyptian press crackdown

An editorial in the Washington Post calls "authoritarian Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak" to account for "continuing his campaign against the democratic movement that sprouted in his country last year" by stifling the country's "fledgling independent press". The Post draws attention to the recent jailing of journalists and bloggers under a law that makes it a crime to "affront the president of the republic", or to insult parliament, public agencies, the armed forces, the judiciary or "the general public interest."
