Washington places Curtis Samuel on short-term injured reserve

Just two days before the Washington Football Team opens the 2021 NFL season against the Los Angeles Chargers; the team made an expected move by placing wide receiver Curtis Samuel on injured reserve.

Per head coach Ron Rivera in his Friday press conference, this will be a short-term situation.

Samuel originally injured the groin at minicamp in June. He began training camp on the physically unable to perform list and was activated on Aug. 15. He took part in individual work that day and spent the rest of training camp working with trainers on a side field.

Throughout the summer, Rivera didn’t seem too worried about Samuel’s injury. Part of the reason was Samuel’s familiarity with the offense and the newfound depth at the wide receiver position.

Now that he is on IR, Samuel will miss at least the first three games of the 2021 season. Terry McLaurin is Washington’s No. 1 wide receiver, while Adam Humphries starts in the slot. Rookie Dyami Brown and Cam Sims should both see an increased number of snaps.

Washington hosts the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1.
