Washington owner Daniel Snyder speaks about plans for future stadium

Washington Football Team owner Daniel Snyder rarely speaks publicly, so it is a big deal when he does.

TMZ caught up with Snyder and Washington team president Jason Wright this week in Los Angeles as the WFT contingent was out west checking out SoFi Stadium, which opened in 2020.

The purpose of the visit was to gain inspiration for Washington’s stadium plans; Snyder says a new stadium will be open by 2027.

Snyder actually opened up about WFT’s plans for a new venue.

“We’re touring stadiums,” Snyder said. “We’re coming to the West Coast and touring. There’s about 12 of us, and we’re just looking to build a new venue back home in D.C., Virginia, Maryland.”

The search for a new stadium will take Snyder and his group to several locations. He told TMZ that he hoped to collect many new ideas, and the team would build a new “state-of-the-art” facility back in the D.C. area.

Wright also spoke about Washington’s plans.

“We’re taking inspiration from everywhere,” Wright said. “Because if we’re going to do something that our fans really deserve  — which is cutting edge and innovative — we’re going to take in all the ideas. So, we’re absorbing.”

Finally, Snyder was asked whether the team would have a new name in time for the new stadium.

“We’ll let you know soon,” Snyder said.

Snyder actually came off well in this setting, appearing more comfortable than normal. Part of Snyder’s issue over the years — and there are many — is he closes himself off to the media and the fan base.
