Washington leads Chiefs 13-10 at halftime

The Washington Football Team leads the Kansas City Chiefs, 13-10, at halftime, in a game that many predicted would be the biggest shootout in Week 6.

Washington took possession of the ball first but went three-and-out. The Chiefs began their first drive on the five-yard line and methodically went 95 yards down the field to take a 7-3 lead.

Washington answered with a 50-yard field goal by Dustin Hopkins after quarterback Taylor Heinicke attempted a deep pass that fell incomplete on third down.

Then, a flurry of turnovers happened.

Mahomes was picked off at Washington’s six-yard line, just as it appeared the Chiefs would score. Washington did nothing with the ball, and Kansas City got the ball back and kicked a 52-yard field goal. Washington answered with another field goal.

On a second and 20, Kansas City wide receiver Mecole Hardman took the handoff from Mahomes and went across midfield before he was stripped of the football. Washington quarterback Taylor Heinicke later found tight end Ricky Seals-Jones for a touchdown to give the WFT a 13-10 lead.

Mahomes went to work again, quickly taking the ball down the field and into Washington territory. However, Mahomes takes a snap, drops it, and then is pressured by Washington. Instead of taking the sack for a minimal loss, Mahomes threw an ill-advised pass that was picked off by Washington safety Bobby McCain to essentially end the first half.

Mahomes ended the first half completing 13 of 23 passes for 223 yards with two interceptions. Meanwhile, Heinicke completed 14 of 25 passes for 132 yards and one touchdown.

The Chiefs will receive to open the second half.
