Washington is asking for a 1st-round pick in return for Trent Williams

With the NFL Trade Deadline just hours away, the Washington Redskins are running out of time to deal left tackle Trent Williams to a desiring suitor. While it was reported on Monday that Washington was willing to give up Williams for the right price, it now seems that the price they’re asking for might be a bit too high for some teams’ liking.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Redskins are hoping to get a first-round pick, and the Cleveland Browns, who have been the most notable public suitor, is unwilling to give up that much, claiming that multiple mid-round picks would be more likely. It was also reported by NBC Sports Washington’s JP Finlay that the Redskins would take a high-profile player back in return as well.

It’s understandable why the Browns don’t want to give up a first-round pick for Williams, as the 31-year-old hasn’t played football in months, and he has been dealing with multiple injuries over the past year or so. He is also due a new contract in the future, one that would likely make him the highest-paid tackle in the NFL. We’ll have to wait and see what the two teams settle on by the deadline at 4 p.m. ET if a deal is reached at all.
