The rumors about Washington’s interest in moving up in the 2021 NFL draft are all over the place. While Washington likely is interested in one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2021 NFL draft, the cost is probably too prohibitive for a move into the top 10.
Therefore, Washington’s best move is likely to stay put at No. 19 and take the best player available. That is, of course, unless the Football Team can find a trade partner and move back to acquire more draft capital.
In Peter King’s new mock draft, he has Washington sitting still at No. 19 and landing the left tackle it wants — and needs. That player is Christian Darrisaw of Virginia Tech.
Admirable story. As the 171st-rated offensive tackle coming out of high school, Darrisaw got one major-school offer (Virginia Tech) and took it . . . and started 35 of 36 games in his three-year career with the Hokies, all at left tackle. At 6-5 and 322, Darrisaw is a feisty and battle-tested player who could play in year one on a line that got overrun for 50 sacks in 2020. The left-tackle position allowed 38 sacks/pressures for WFT last year, and with a stationary quarterback for at least one more year in Washington in Ryan Fitzpatrick, the immediate need is there to do better than, say, Cornelius Lucas at left tackle.
This is an ideal scenario for Washington. The team has done plenty of homework on Darrisaw. However, there is a good chance Darrisaw is gone by No. 17 to the Las Vegas Raiders, so if he is available, Washington should make Darrisaw the pick.
