Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson shot during attempted robbery

Washington Commanders rookie running back Brian Robinson said surgery “went well” Monday after he was shot Sunday evening during what police believe was an attempted robbery or carjacking.

Robinson, 23, was shot twice in the lower part of his body in Washington, D.C., around 6 p.m. and was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

Team officials met Robinson at the hospital, the Commanders confirmed in a statement.

“It’s really just about the healing process,” Coach Ron Rivera told reporters Monday. “Then, once he’s well enough to get out on the field, then the doctors will have to clear him obviously and then we’ll go from there. But like I said, everything’s been very positive so far.”

The Metro Police Department has not announced any suspects or arrests and a spokesperson did not immediately return a request for comment from the Daily News Monday.

Robinson was drafted in the third round of the 2022 draft out of the University of Alabama. He did not play in the Commanders’ final preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens Saturday night.

There is no timeline for his return to the field, Rivera said Monday.
