For the first time since Ryan Kerrigan in 2011, a Washington first-round pick will make it to a second contract with the franchise.
Defensive tackle Jonathan Allen and the team agreed to a four-year, $72 million extension that includes a $30 million signing bonus on Monday afternoon, just one day before the team is scheduled to open training camp in Richmond.

Reaching a deal before training camp was important for Washington. Had a deal not happened before camp, the incentive for Allen to negotiate during the season was minimal. He could have forced the team to have used the franchise tag on him in 2022.
It’s a great move for the Football Team. They keep one of the cornerstones of arguably the NFL’s top defensive line, and head coach Ron Rivera keeps a strong leader who has a strong presence in the local community.
This was a deal where everyone wins.
