Washing machine cleaning hack gets mixed reaction from fellow clean fans

It was one of those tips that split opinion. Some wondered why they didn't know already and others couldn't believe people didn't know. A washing machine cleaning tip sparked great debate when it was shared on Facebook and subsequently by the Mirror.

The tip came from a woman who admits she loves cleaning. However, she didn't know how to get her washing machine drawer sparkling. The Facebook user said that she previously had no clue that the drawer that dispenses the detergent could be removed from the machine to be cleaned separately.

Unaware of how dirty the drawer was, the house proud mum managed to slide out the drawer after realising it had "a little piece to push down", and was able to get a proper look at it. She set about cleaning it using a simple yet effective combination of warm washing up liquid, warm water, and a trusty old toothbrush and soft cloth.

After "a lot of scrubbing", she said the section was sparkling once more, and shared the result in a Facebook group called Cleaning tips and tricks captioning the post: "How on earth did I not know this drawer came out?! I’m not officially an adult and love cleaning haha! Thank you everyone for your cleaning tips and tricks".

While some members of the group where amazed by the apparently little-known hack, writing comments such as: "They say you learn something every day. Well, today I learned this thank you", and "I did not know of this trickery either!" Other already knew the trick. "Yes they come out on every washing machine you just normally press the back bit were conditioner goes x", said one person, while another added: "Did my washing draw last week".

Further cleaning advice was offer up too. "How did you get rid of the black mess", asked one person. "Soak it in hot water and bleach," replied another.
