Was this the most awkward family gathering ever on Coronation Street?

In the most awkward family gathering since the great Manchester Tart showdown starring the late Deirdre Barlow, there was another classic cringe-worthy moment on Coronation Street when Beth Sutherland came to blows with Claudia Colby.

Posh Claudia rankled Beth by buying a state-of-the-art baby monitor for baby Bertie's homecoming party and lording it over the Osbourne's, Barlows and the Sutherlands.

She passed comment on new parents Daniel and Sinead's 'cosy' flat and suggested that they should meet at a swanky hotel next time.

An angry Beth left the lounge to change her great nephew, while airing all her angry thoughts to the baby.

Unfortunately she forgot about the monitor and everything was seen on a TV screen link by her fellow guests in the lounge.

A mortified Claudia watched as Beth mimicked her, called her 'a piece of old mutton' and questioned if she was 'up to it' while dating Ken Barlow.

Gobby Beth returned to the lounge to find everyone staring at her in horror. And as Ken tried to smooth things over between the women, he made things worse by declaring that he and Claudia were 'just good friends' which was news to her.

Hair salon owner Claudia decided to put the knicker stitcher in her place before ditching Ken.

"Let me enlighten you too Beth, far from being 'not up to it' as you say, I am up for anything that goes," she hissed.

"There are weeks when I have to chase off more men than you have deep fried chocolate bars or whatever it is that passes for food in your house."

"That was a bit awkward," tweeted one viewer.

"The tension could be cut with a knife," said another.

It was meant to be a happy gathering for cancer fighter Sinead, husband Daniel and their baby after a traumatic few months.

Sinead was diagnosed with cervical cancer after discovering she was pregnant and little Bertie was treated in a special care baby unit after the new mum had to have an emergency cesarean section at 27 weeks so that she could start life-saving radiotherapy.

At first she could only see her son via FaceTime due to her poor health.
