Was the UK right to withdraw troops from Afghanistan this year - poll

On Sunday, the Taliban took control of Afghanistan's capital Kabul as President Ashraf Ghani fled the country.

Militants have entered the capital from all sides, with fears for the future of the Middle Eastern country under strict Taliban rule.

Activists fear women will face torture and death while targets on a 'kill list' could be murdered on their doorsteps.

Despite the escalating concern, POTUS Joe Biden said he "stands squarely by" withdrawing US troops from Afghanistan.

Speaking at the White House, he said: "After 20 years, I have learned the hard way: that there was never a good time to withdraw US forces."

However, PM Boris Johnson seems to be pointing the finger at Biden.

On Sunday, he said: "It's very clear from what I said the situation in Afghanistan was going to change.

"It's fair to say the US decision to pull out has accelerated things. But we've known for a long time that this was the way things were going...

"Our priority is to make sure that we deliver on our obligations to British nationals in Afghanistan, all those who helped the British effort in Afghanistan over 20 years."
