Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s shock separation after nearly two decades of marriage has been revealed, with reports suggesting signs of strain surfaced months earlier.
The Oscar-winning actress and the country music star, who share two daughters, had sparked speculation when only Nicole marked their wedding anniversary publicly this year.
Kidman, 58, and Urban, 57, tied the knot in June 2006 and share daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.
The actress also has two adopted children from her previous marriage to actor Tom Cruise.
The couple’s anniversary in June passed with an unusually muted celebration on social media.
Nicole posted a photo with her husband, writing: “Happy Anniversary Baby”, while Keith responded with a single love heart emoji.
Unlike previous years, however, the singer did not share his own tribute on his feed.
In contrast, Urban had previously posted a romantic shot of the pair together on the beach to mark their 2023 anniversary, writing of his “forever” love for Nicole.
Reports from TMZ now suggest the pair have been living apart since the start of the summer, with sources close to the couple telling People that the split has been difficult for Nicole.
The source added that Nicole’s sister Antonia has been her “rock” during the separation, with the wider Kidman family rallying around the actress.
“Nicole’s sister [Antonia] has been a rock and the entire Kidman family has come together to support one another,” an insider shared.
“She didn’t want this,” they continued, referring to Nicole. “She has been fighting to save the marriage.”
Kidman and Urban each launched their respective careers in Australia and hold dual US and Australian citizenship. They met in January 2005 at a Hollywood event promoting Australia, and married in June the following year in Sydney.
THR said Urban most recently posted photos of the couple on his social media in May, after they attended the 2025 Academy of Country Music Awards, where the four-time Grammy winner received the ACM Triple Crown.
Kidman earlier this month wrapped production on a sequel to the film Practical Magic with Sandra Bullock.
Meanwhile Urban has been on his High and Alive World tour since May in support of his 11th studio album, High.
The singer has shows scheduled through mid-October and the next stop scheduled for Thursday, in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
