Was Meghan Markle and Harry's name choice for Archie a tribute to Prince George?

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have finally revealed their choice of baby name bringing to an end months of speculation.

But while Archie is an unusual name for a royal, it does resonate with one close relative.

The new royal arrival's cousin George apparently told a dog walker his name was Archie while out with his gran, Carole Middleton, in January.

The stranger pretended she did not recognise the prince and asked him what his name was, prompting him to give the unexpected reply.

The dog walker told The Sun : "Just to be friendly I engaged in a bit of small talk and I asked George what his name was, even though obviously I knew it.

"To my astonishment he said 'I'm called Archie' with a big smile on his face. I don't know why he calls himself Archie but kids often play with their names and I think it's lovely."

She added that Prince George's police minder told her not to take pictures of the children.

'Meghan and Harry's precious little treasure has unique place in royal gallery'

Kate and William call the youngster 'tips' or 'PG Tips' after the brand of tea, reports claim.

There was a frenzy of bets on the baby's name ahead of Meghan giving birth, although very few expected Baby Sussex to be called Archie, with bookmakers predicting Arthur, Spencer or James to be the most likely male names.

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was born 7lb 3oz at 5.26am on Monday, almost a week overdue.

The royal couple revealed Archie's name to the public yesterday.
