Was Jameela Jamil’s Golden Globes name mix-up a prank for The Good Place fans?

Joke: Viewers of E!'s red carpet coverage noticed the subtle tribute to The Good Place (Picture: Jon Kopaloff/Getty Images)

Jameela Jamil was left in hysterics after the producers of E! News’ Golden Globes red carpet coverage made an in-joke for fans of her Netflix show, The Good Place.

As the actress walked the red carpet at last night’s ceremony, viewers were quick to note that the star had been identified by the wrong name in the ticker running along the bottom of E!’s coverage.

Instead of being labelled as “Jameela Jamil,” her name was listed as “Kamilah Al-Jamil,” the name of her character Tahani’s spotlight-hogging sister on The Good Place.

While some viewers were confused by the mistake, others wondered whether it had been made on purpose as a tribute to Jamil’s TV role.

In the show, which received a nomination for Best Musical or Comedy TV series, Tahani is desperately jealous of her sister’s success and feels constantly overshadowed by her popularity, making the apparent mix-up particularly apt.

“Snarky prank by person who loves The Good Place or a genuine screw up?” one fan asked on Twitter.

“Watching #GoldenGlobes red carpet, did E! just caption Jameela Jamil as Kamilah al-Jamil?” another wrote. “What a great, subtle joke. This is truly Tahani’s Bad Place.”

Intentional or not, Jamil found the gaffe hilarious, sharing a screenshot from the red carpet coverage on her Twitter account and writing: “E live red carpet. This is legit the funniest thing I have ever seen. What a joyous mistake. Tahani would DIE! LOO LOL LOL. #witherTahani?

“Hands down the greatest of red carpet jokes from whoever did this. It’s made my night.”

She also shared a similar post on Instagram, describing the producer behind the stunt as “a comedic genius.”

“Whoever writes for @enew is a comedic genius and should write for our show,” she said. “I died! If this wasn’t a joke it’s even funnier.”

Ahead of the ceremony, the actress revealed to her social media followers that she would be wearing a pair of jeans under her Monique Lhuillier gown to avoid the January chill.
