Victoria Secret Show 2018: Was this year's fashion show the angels' most modest to date?

Since 1996 the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show has become known for sending models down the runway in extravagant, yet skimpy, lingerie.

On Thursday evening the brand lived up to expectations at its annual show in New York, with Angels and models, including Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid, showing off their toned uber-bods in an array of lacy two-sets.

There was also a noticeable shift in the brand's signature aesthetic, though.

Possibly due to the ongoing controversy the brand has experienced in recent years over its highly-sexualized images, which in 2018 has been perpetuated by the #MeToo movement. As well as the fact that while the fashion industry continues to become more inclusive, Victoria's Secret stands still, only improving its racial diversity in the last few years and with still no hint of varying body types.

2018's Victoria's Secret show was by far its most modest runway show to date.

The spectacle, which saw Shawn Mendes and Rita Ora perform, saw 60 models walking the catwalk with around half of the 90 looks, including trousers, mesh dresses, and some in full-on jumpsuits.

The collaboration with Mary Katrantzou saw numerous trouser styles, from flares to tight leggings, paired with long-sleeved crop tops or bralets.

The British designer also sent ready-to-wear mesh dresses down the runway in sunshine yellow and hot pink.

As the show continued models strutted down the catwalk fully clothed.

Lameka Fox had absolutely no skin on show as she covered up in a skintight black jumpsuit.

Newcomer Cheyenne Maya Carty wore a T-shirt dress, which was adorned with the face of Angel Jasmine Tookes.

Lingerie was less flesh-falshing with designs that included more bodysuits, tummy-covering corsets and billowing dressing gowns or jackets.

Could Victoria's Secret's days of revealing underwear shows be behind us? 2018 gently hints at the prospect.
