The south-west Victorian city of Warrnambool has avoided going back into lockdown, for now.
One new case of coronavirus was recorded in Warrnambool on Friday, according to South West Healthcare.
A total of 18 active cases have been recorded in the city since Monday, 12 of which came to light on Thursday.
The outbreak has been contained to four households, but numerous supermarkets and fast food retailers in the town have been identified as exposure sites.
On Thursday, South West Healthcare chief executive Craig Fraser forecasted a jump in cases.
Mr Fraser said he was pleasantly surprised that only one case had been registered on Friday.
"I was worried, but I'm cautiously relieved," he said.
Mr Fraser said while he could not predict what subsequent daily case numbers would be, he was pleased with the number of people getting tested.
Nearly 1,300 tests conducted on Thursday are yet to be returned, prompting Mr Fraser to urge all residents to remain on guard.
"It's really now a wait and see for us," he said.
"With more people getting tested, we know that we're becoming more confident with the negative tests that are coming back."
South West Healthcare is still urging regional Victorians to avoid travelling to Warrnambool where possible.
